The Moon in June
I can’t sleep, so I write it’s the early hours of July. As I write, I reflect we are half way through the year! I question what I have achieved? Knowing there is still more to do personally and globally. So, I go within. I reflect that the sun entered Cancer at zero degrees on the summer solstice (21st) –which is the start of summer, the longest day, and was the hottest day since 1976! It was also the start of cancerians baby’s birthdays (although some still sit on the cusp). I further reflect that on the 24th of June, the new moon this June, was in its own sign. The sign of Cancer. Cancer is ruled by the moon and therefore very much at home. It was also the celebration of Eid and the ending of Ramadan on Junes new moon. According to astrology, cancerians are nurturing, family orientated, protective and intuitive- just a few adjectives to mention. The sign is also about, ancestry, roots and is the ruler of the fourth house on a birth chart. The fourth house, is the house of the home and the house of the father. Father’s Day was also celebrated in June. But as I reflect on the new moon in June, with all its synchronicities, coincidences and astrological placements, I can’t help but wonder why so many people lost their homes and loved ones? Cancer is the element of water, but yet there was not enough water to quench the fire. Although on the day of the disaster the moon was in the sign of Aquarius, which is an air sign- no wonder there was not enough water, and only air coming out of the taps. I try to go back to sleep, but my mind still questions why? Why do we have a “coalition of chaos?” Why after so many years of unconscious, or conscious neglect, the health and safety of people’s homes is only considered after devastation has really hit home, to the core, to the roots, to the hearts of many? Surely prevention is better than cure? Is it time to dig deeper and re think and reconsider our self-worth, moral justice, humanity, leadership and fatherhood? They say the family is the cornerstone of society, but it feels like it is being eroded. The Yoruba say, it takes a village to raise a child, but it feels like the child has no village or no roots to cling too.
At present, the Sun is still in the sign of Cancer, and is placed in the eleventh house. The eleventh house is the house of Aquarius, the house of wishes, the house of groups, more importantly the house of humanity. A wise woman told me never give up until the eleventh hour! My eyelids are heavy, my intuition whispers, is this one of many messages of June`s new moon?
